ED 2000 biography

Corin Arnold, DJ ED2000 has been working with sound since the mid 1970s. He has been DJing for just short of 40 years, and has in that time played over 4000 gigs. Born in London, in 1957 to artist parents, he bought his first 7" in 1969, joined a punk band in 76, started DJing in 78, and moved to Berlin in 89. Today he still lives as part of an artist collective in Kunsthaus KuLe on Augustrasse in Mitte.

He was resident DJ in Tacheles for most of its 20 years post Berlin Wall lifespan. He was also the longest running resident DJ in the Aktions Galerie, later to become DNA. The go-to DJ for art shows presented by the Berlin British Council, he was invited as one of the headliners at all of the 5 annual groundbreaking “Ab Die Post” young artist festivals. He has also presented audio visual installations as part of the Staendige Vertretung art team at the Plassey Arts symposium. He has been booked to play at the Documenta (X) and was also invited to improvise sound for an event that included film presentations by the video artist Harun Farocki.

Corin Arnold has been continuously present on radio since 1992, when he established a weekly 5 hour electronica/chillout show at Kiss.FM. This has since been acknowledged as a game changer in the musical landscape of the freshly united Berlin. Thereafter he was the programme director at dj-sets.com, a pioneer in DJ driven net radio. Corin was also a long term resident at Twen.FM, Berlin’s only pirate station to this day. He has been a music editor and host to two of his own shows at BLN.FM ever since it started 7 years ago. More recently, the ex “Air Liquid” member Ingmar Koch invited Corin to contribute shows and play sets live on the LSB Radio project.

ED2000 was booked by the EU for the 25 years jubilee of a united Germany to perform, together with Chris Zippel, before 35.000 participants in the Triumph Park, Brussels. He has played extensively across most of Europe, from Croatia to the UK, Russia, Japan, Indonesia and China. As co-founder of Dangerous Drums, one of the longest running event series in Berlin electronic club culture history, he has held down a 7 year residency at Tresor. Likewise, he fulfilled a non-stop residency throughout the entire 12 years of the innovator club Maria Am Ostbahnhoff. Via the Dangerous Drums events and label, he has released the work of over 100 musicians and DJs and has hosted performances by over 200 artists. He staged the debut Berlin shows of Kode 9, Pinch and Benny Ill, who are accredited with the creation and establishing of Dubstep.

Resident on all Interference festivals in Berlin, Corin is now co booker and organiser of the slow but sure re-emergence of that project. He has a long term friendship with the founders of the event series, Uwe Reinicke and Dr.Motte, for whom he also managed Mission Record store in Berlin from 93 to 97.

In 2014, he was invited to DJ the Berlin Burning Man conference post-event chill-out. The same year he decided to set about creating some new input. This has resulted in 2 new current projects, the K.K.D.W. & Dub Interventions. It is these projects that Corin is currently promoting. He is working on his own book which is his account of the 90s subculture that flourished in central Berlin Mitte, told from his perspective as one of its key initiators. Alongside his own recollections, it will include quotes from over 100 interviews he has conducted, and hundreds of era specific images, flyers, and photos.
